We can prove the love of God from our love for Him.
“It’s just really hard for me to deny that I love Jesus. I just absolutely love Jesus.”
Then why do you still feel unloved, Christian?
Is it not true that…we love because He first loved us?
“We love Him because He first loved us.” 1 John 4:19
O Lord, may our raging, “mature” hearts never grow too old for this truth. Forgive us.
In Your light we see light (Psalm 36:9). In Your love, we love.
So if I have even the smallest bit of love in my heart for the actual, scripturally revealed Jesus (You, Lord!), I can infer beyond the shadow of a doubt that He must love me.
Why? Because my love is based on His love.
My love is preceded by His love.
My love grows out of His love.
My love is nothing if it weren’t for His love.
If I love at all, it is because He has loved so truly.
So we can actually prove the perfect love of God by looking at the imperfect love of our inconstant, tortured, weird, and often failing hearts.
If I love Him even a little bit – lying flat on the floor, devoid of all other good emotion – it is because He loves me a lot.
