An invitation into the love of Christ – written by Sam Caldwell, Kiara Hebert, and Clay Waits
All religions made by man teach that we have to work our way to God.
They teach that we can get to the place where we deserve God’s love.
Maybe you too think you can deserve God’s love. Maybe you think you deserve God’s forgiveness.
But that is not how Jesus does things.
His death and His resurrection are made to teach us to look away from ourselves…to Him.
God’s Word says that humans can only be saved by grace...by His grace.
What does that mean? “Grace” means a free gift – a gift we can’t earn, and a gift we don’t deserve.
We want to tell you in love that you will never deserve to be forgiven by God. You will never deserve to be loved by God. But read on…
No one does. No one will. Why?
Well, all people have sinned and fallen short of God’s glorious deserving. No one loves their neighbors as much as they love…themselves. No one loves God as much as they love…themselves. And so no one deserves God. He is worthy, He is perfect, and He deserves only the very best. For selfish humans, it is impossible to climb that mountain of worthiness!
And that’s why Christ came down – to give us a gift that we don’t deserve.
That gift is called salvation, and it demonstrates God’s love and justice at the same time. In God’s justice, you can never coerce Him into giving you a gift you don’t deserve. In God’s love, He freely gives you a gift you don’t deserve.
Please receive this gift and stop thinking you will ever deserve it.
It will tire you out to keep thinking you will ever deserve God’s forgiveness. Please lay your burdens at the cross and rest in Christ’s grace.
He gives His very best…but only to those who have been humbled to know that they don’t deserve it.
