You promise, Lord.
You tell us You will come (Psalm 50:3).
Teach us, then, to forget ourselves and wait! Teach us to forget ourselves in yearning for You!
O that we would fly outside of ourselves in real repentance. O that we would fly outside of ourselves and be received by One who is warmer, truer, lovelier! Let us leave our pettiness. Let us detest our selfishness. Let us hate even the garment spotted by the flesh. Let us love only the righteousness that has been revealed from heaven! Let us love only the righteousness of God!
Teach us to bend and bow before the Lord our Righteousness! (But what is His name?) Let us glory in the righteousness of Another. (But what is His name?)
We hunger and thirst, Lord, for that day when the skies will pour down righteousness, for the day when pure, unadulterated, un-hypocritical righteousness will spring up from the earth (Isaiah 45:8). Glorify Yourself, O God, and be glorified! I would have fainted, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living (Psalm 27:13)! Don’t let me faint, Omnipotence! I was about to faint! But thanks be to God, You have promised. You have promised that You will come.
But how will you show Yourself? How will You shine when You come? You say, “out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God will shine forth” (Psalm 50:2). You will shine from your church, from your people, from Zion. Heal us, then, Lord! Help Your people! Polish us! Cleanse us! Show us the One who is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. Show us the One who will not keep silent (Psalm 50:3)! Show us the One who will triumph gloriously (Exodus 15:1)!
Please tell us His name, Father!
“You will call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).
O come, Lord Jesus (Revelation 22:20)! Come!
